The Swaraj 742 XT is a three-cylinder, 3307 cc 2WD tractor in the manufacturer's 41–45 HP category. It is best compared as a set of selectable controls: the official page lists alternative clutch, gearbox and steering equipment. The badge alone does not tell you which combination a quoted price includes.

Separate three different choices

The standard clutch is single, with dual and double-clutch independent-PTO alternatives listed. The 8-forward, 2-reverse gearbox can have centre or optional side-shift levers, and the table describes sliding-mesh/partial-constant-mesh equipment. Moving the lever to the side is not proof that the transmission is synchromesh. Ask the dealer to mark each selected item on one specification sheet.

Decide which PTO option you actually need

Standard 540 rpm is listed alongside an optional multispeed arrangement. Do not pay for an option merely because it has more modes: give the dealer the implement model and ask which approved setting it needs. Confirm the engagement sequence on the supplied clutch system. Compare the job with the nearby 843 XM

Both are placed in the same broad power category, but that does not make their engines, controls or dimensions interchangeable. For the 742 XT, the official hydraulic figure is 1700 kg; have the loaded implement and ballast approved separately. The 56-litre tank is storage capacity, not a fuel-use forecast. Choose the package that resolves an actual operating requirement and obtain current workshop charges before buying.
