Eicher 242 Price October 2026

The Eicher 242 needs a PTO compatibility check before it needs a horsepower comparison. Its Indian specification lists a single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, but the important attachment detail is the 21-spline PTO producing 1000 rpm at 1616 engine rpm. A familiar implement already on your farm may require a different input.

Check the attachment before agreeing a package

Take the implement's identification plate and manual to the supplier. Obtain written confirmation of input speed, shaft profile, power requirement and approved driveline. A coupling that physically joins two shafts does not establish compatibility. Do not use a spline adaptor to connect a 1000-rpm output to a 540-rpm implement; HSE's PTO guidance specifically warns against that arrangement.

Do not confuse modest power with orchard dimensions

Clarify the version being supplied

Mechanical steering and sealed dry-disc brakes are listed, with power steering and oil-immersed brakes as options. Compare quotations on the same equipment basis. Ask the dealer to demonstrate steering effort and the prescribed sliding-mesh shift sequence, with the intended operator seated correctly.

The current webpage rates lift at 1220 kgf with lower links horizontal; an older official brochure lists 900 kg at a different stated position. Those figures should not be silently combined. Obtain the applicable specification and attachment approval for the actual machine, rather than interpreting either number as a permitted implement mass. An air-cooled engine also still needs its prescribed cleaning and service; absence of a coolant circuit does not mean maintenance-free operation.
