John Deere 5042D PowerPro 2WD Price October 2026
The John Deere 5042D PowerPro is a tractor to assess around the implements you already own, rather than around a promised acreage figure. This page covers the Indian 2WD, eight-forward-gear version. The similarly named GearPro offering needs its own specification check before you compare quotations.
What the specification tells a buyer
Deere lists a naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine rated at 44 HP at 2,100 rpm, an 8F/4R collarshift gearbox, a 60-litre tank and a 1,600 kgf hydraulic lift rating. Standard PTO speed is 540 rpm at 2,100 engine rpm; the economy setting is optional. These are manufacturer specifications, not Aglist field-test results. See the Indian product specification.
The purchase question is whether you can achieve the required finish at a workable ground speed with your own implement. Engine horsepower alone cannot answer it. For a rotary tiller, bring its model number, specified tractor-power range, PTO requirement and working width. For a cultivator, add tine count, depth and soil condition. Ask the dealer for a demonstration with a comparable attachment, rather than accepting a general statement that the tractor runs a particular number of feet or tines.
Dry-field work, wet fields and access
A useful shortlist scenario is an owner replacing a general-purpose tractor while retaining existing cultivation and sowing equipment. During a demonstration, judge the finish, steering effort with the attachment raised, headland space and ease of reaching the controls. A short unloaded drive does not answer those questions.
For soft monsoon fields or frequent puddling, arrange a separate traction discussion before settling on this 2WD configuration. The purchase decision should account for the actual soil, tyre condition, ballast and implement. Our 2WD versus 4WD guide provides a starting checklist; it does not establish a universal fuel-saving advantage for either drive type.
Options that belong on the order
The manufacturer lists single/dual clutch choices and factory options including economy PTO, reverse PTO, ROPS with seat belt and mechanical quick raise/lower. Ask for each selected item to be written on the quotation. A showroom photograph is not proof that the same equipment is included in the tractor being delivered.
For regular PTO work, have the dealer demonstrate the controls on the selected clutch configuration. Do not assume that the economy setting supplies the same usable power under a heavy load. Match operating instructions to the implement manual and the actual tractor supplied.
Price and ownership checks in India
No verified model-specific price is available for this review. Obtain an INR quotation showing ex-showroom tractor price, chosen options and each additional on-road charge separately. Ask what delivery, insurance and any applicable registration charges include; do not compare one dealer's bare tractor price with another dealer's complete package.
Request the service schedule and the parts list for the quoted version. Keep routine-service cost separate from an estimated repair allowance. Neither tank size nor an unloaded dealer demonstration establishes litres per acre.
